News Literacy
As a journalist, it is important that I stay unbiased on the topics I write about and make sure I represent the interviewees well. I try as best as I can to retain the full quotes, only occasionally correcting minor grammatical errors. Reserving truthfulness and unbiased facts that represent the community correctly is an important moral of mine.
For my “The Highlander” article, releasing in January of 2023, I chose to cover a very controversial topic about women who have physical attraction toward serial killers. In order to make my interviewee comfortable about her attraction, I had to be careful in what I said and what I published in the article, making sure I don’t defame her name and reserve her identity. While I don’t necessarily agree with her points, it is important to develop a well-rounded article on controversial issues like these and stay unbiased in the writing process as everybody has a story in this world and as a journalist, it is my duty to project that to greater audiences.
