Editing

The last step to perfection

Getting a second opinion is always important. Either for choosing which shirt to get or which creamer to put in your coffee, a second opinion can be very beneficial. In Journalism, editing and critiquing is very important because it will reside on the internet forever once you post it.

Another class I frequently use editing for is French. Being a foreign language to me, I feel group work and proofreading my French essays are very beneficial to my French-speaking learning. I would exchange French paragraphs with others to edit.

New languages are undeniably hard to learn, but having classmates as a support system makes learning environments way better.

In my free time, I like to edit the photographs that I have taken on Adobe Lightroom, a high-quality picture editing software. Editing images helps enhance the viewing experience with features that the camera might’ve not picked up. To the left and above are photographs I took and edited.

After starting up my new podcast for my junior year, The Reel Ramble, and obtaining experience with Adobe Premiere Pro through a film summer camp for three short films I made over the summer, I transitioned to industry-standard Premiere Pro for editing. Premiere Pro provides so many different effects, audio, and color features that iMovie doesn’t have like reducing background noise. I liked Adobe Premiere Pro for it’s features, quality, advanced technology, and how much the program has to offer.

I used video editing software to touch up my podcast episodes for my podcasts, The Tune Talk and The Reel Ramble. It would be nearly impossible to take one clear clip of a fifteen-minute episode without any mistakes as much time it would save and be more convenient.

There are two different editing programs I experimented with; desktop iMovie and a mobile program, CCP. I had used iMovie in the past to edit one of my showcased short films, but not nearly as much as I used CCP. I used CCP to edit countless videos for Instagram, video montages, leisure videos, and videos that would contribute to my failed YouTube channel. I ended up using CCP for my first couple of The Tune Talk episodes but ended up transferring to iMovie because of the smoother transportation of files and the lack of space on my phone using CCP.

In the 2022-23 school year with Journalism, I have been selected to be a podcast editor. I review and grade other people’s podcasts and I absolutely love it! I have been doing it ever since.

The primary type of editing I used in Media Arts English was for proofreading essays. To the left is an image of one of my editorial comments for one of my friends’ essays of The Big Bad Wolf.

My friend and I exchanged essays to write in adjustments and overall improve our writing. I am a firm believer that everything can use advice. I also left a couple of helpful small comments that I believed would help her improve her overall essay. Students proofreading each others’ papers are essentially a free trial to a teacher’s final grading. What made sense to you may not make sense to others.
