Writing
Great imagery, descriptions, and emotions are provoked through writing. Essential to education and life in general, writing is a very crucial skill to master. Journalism helped me better my writing in article form so that I had the freedom to write and publish what I wanted.

What makes a man? His actions, mannerisms, clothing?
One particular spectacle of people that have taken a stab at defying today’s societal gender non-conformity is musical artists. Styles, Jaden Smith, Young Thug, Kanye West, Andre 3000, A$ap Rocky, and Kid Cudi are just a few of the many celebrity figures that have willingly taken the bold risk.
The theory of attention-seeking motives about these men fuel the speculation on the meaning of their bold clothing choices. Blindsighted by the history of men’s apparel, many people still think more feminine clothing choices make them “gay,” “transgender,” or “desperate attention seekers.”
Unclasping the straps of restricting women’s bodies
Running and swimming without a shirt are just two things that men have the privilege to do but women cannot.
Sprouting from the 2012 protest in New York, freeing and uncensoring women’s bodies, specifically their chests, has become more prevalent in today’s society. Normalizing women not wearing bras has released the societal gender roles for how women are “allowed” to dress. Showing any sort of breasts is strongly looked down upon especially within the male gaze.
Carlmont sophomores, juniors, and freshmen took the ICA (Interim Comprehensive Assessment) last semester. This article explores the difficulties that students faced. Jenica and I interviewed a couple of fellow students about the testing.
Separated by the border of a pandemic, teens have to resort to on-screen ways to connect with others.
In this feature, I’ve observed multiple ways teens, like myself, would cope with not connecting with people in person.
Jenica and I published a beat about Carlmont students having difficulties with online learning, like wifi issues and breakout rooms! Only a couple of months from the beginning of the school year, students have discovered new difficulties with the newly implemented away learning system.
Do you find listening to music makes you work better and feel in a better mood?
This article is on music affecting students’ productivity. Jenica and I conducted a study where we took a poll vote of the number of students that listen to music during their studying and what type of music they listen to. To our surprise, students listened to a variety of different genres.
Highlander Magazine
As a part of our monthly beats for journalism, we were required to contribute to the Carlmont Highlander magazine.
We planned our spread, designed our art, interviewed and wrote our articles. We compiled a total of three articles.
We were also tasked to sell ads to fund the magazine. Magazines were distributed to subscription owners and Carlmont classrooms each month. The Highlander was almost entirely run by students.
In terms of the reporting aspect, I loved getting a range of different unique perspectives on stories. For the article above, I got to interview one of my favorite sneaker YouTubers who I used to watch religiously every morning when I would enter a shoe raffle on Nike’s SNKRS app as well as include a high-quality source for my article. Through the interview, I also got the chance to gain information on how I could win sneaker drops.
For the article below, I got to interview an amazing model who is around my age and it was so interesting seeing people alike me pursue such an interesting career.
